An Online Auction Leader: Building Scalable Solutions for an Evolving User Base
My Role
Global Head of Design & Research
Background
ATG operates eight world-leading marketplaces, generating over £3.3 billion in gross merchandise value annually. Their platform facilitates more than 86,000 auctions a year for over 3,900 auction houses, offering a diverse range of items, from Rolex watches and fine art to industrial equipment. With approximately 10 million monthly visitors, ATG connects buyers and sellers across the globe.
ATG acquired LiveAuctioneers (LA) due to LA’s rapid growth in new mainstream eCommerce buyers (who were not the users the industry typically serves). I was tasked with expanding the Design and Research team and implementing LA’s cross-functional process to produce scalable products for global marketplaces and an evolving user base.
What I accomplished
-
Conversion rates increased by up to 12% by enhancing buyer and seller experiences, contributing to gross merchandise values increasing from £2.6B to £3.3B in under three years.
-
Increased bidding by up to 10% among new mainstream users on LiveAuctioneers.com
-
Built one scalable design system to serve all marketplace brands and seller tools, dramatically reducing development and maintenance costs.
-
Consolidated redundant, low quality auction management tools into one efficient platform to be used for all marketplaces, unlocking operational efficiency, and enabling sellers to create one auction for use across all marketplaces.
